In a dramatic turn of events, a man from Cincinnati has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to the serious crime of hijacking a vehicle with a young child inside. Victor Farris faced charges for his actions on September 4 in Peoria, which led to an extensive county-wide search for both the car and the three-year-old occupant.
The incident began when the child's uncle was at a rental car facility on Pioneer Parkway. He had placed the toddler securely in the backseat of the rental vehicle while he sat in the driver’s seat. Suddenly, Farris approached him, dressed in business attire, and falsely claimed to be an employee of the rental agency. Under this pretense, he convinced the uncle to step out of the vehicle, taking advantage of the moment to drive away with the child still inside. Hours later, the child was found safe at a gas station in Bartonville, but Farris managed to flee the scene by train to Iowa, where he was apprehended 12 days later.
The justice system responded swiftly and decisively. Farris received a combined sentence of 15 years for aggravated vehicular hijacking and seven years for kidnapping, to be served concurrently.
